This heatmap shows the state of US data privacy legislation as at November 2021, sorting every state into one of four categories: laws passed, bills proposed or pending, measures that failed, and states with no proposal at all. It gives compliance, legal and contact centre teams a single view of where the regulatory pressure was building ahead of the wave of state privacy laws that followed. Because the picture changes with each legislative session, the snapshot is best read as a baseline rather than a current position.
