The European leg of the PCI Security Standards Council Community Meetings saw a theme of developing and maintaining data security standards emerge – testament to the great strides that are being made in PCI compliance throughout Europe.
The PCI Pal team were out in force at the event, with Geoff Forsyth, Tony Smith, David Swift, Jane Goodayle and Zacky Mohammed all in attendance. While they were busy flying the flag for the company, offering advice and answering questions from stand no.1, the PCI Pal flag was also flying high among the primary sponsors of the event. As a Silver Sponsor and proud supporter of the work that the PCI SSC does to raise awareness of the importance of compliance, we were delighted to welcome guests to the third day’s networking breakfast (see below).
Compliance is all about Preparation
Outside of networking with industry peers, partners and professionals, the event was a great opportunity to stay up to date with the latest research and opinion on all matters PCI compliance. Held at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in an unseasonably warm Barcelona, highlights from the speaker stage included lessons on preparing for the worst-case scenario from ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ Co-Pilot Jeff Skiles and the low-down from Verizon’s recent Data Breaches & Payment Security Report.
With 42 countries represented, this annual meeting certainly did much to highlight the way in which data security standards and awareness of best practice have gathered pace over the past few years, particularly in light of the forthcoming GDPR. Interesting conversations both at our stand within the vendor showcase (pictured below) and during the more informal evening receptions highlighted some of the challenges contact centre businesses and the wider PCI community are facing. What was most refreshing however, was to see that so many are keen to tackle head on the threats of hackers with sustainable, best practice, preventative PCI compliance measures.
